Denim & Tea Apron #3

Posted by Johnny

I finally finished this apron. I have been working on this one for over two weeks now. The first time I made it I didn't like how it looked, so I sat it on the table and contemplated it every time I walked pat. I am very happy with it now. One of the changes I made to this one was neck ties. I did this by placing three buttons so it will fit more people. The first one I made only had neck ties, that tied at the back and I wasn't crazy about that so I changed it on this one. Then after doing this one I decided to change my technique once again on the next one. I think I will like the new improved method better as it will still be adjustable, but will not require so much fabric for the neck ties and will be just as easy to put together.
This fabric is actually a tea print which is difficult to see in the photo. Mostly burnt orange with greens and browns. Also hard to tell from the picture is that this one is a little longer than the first one. I was thinking of my taller friends...lol.
Let me know what you think.

Knit & Crochet Projects Finished

Posted by Johnny

The past two days I have been trying to finish this scarf that I have been working on for over 5 months now. It was not hard I just didn't feel up to knitting. This yarn started as a shawl and I made the mistake of not buying enough for the shawl, then when I went to buy more it was not the same dye lot, so it did not match, so I have been ripping the shawl apart and making a plain scarf form it for one of my nieces. I hope she likes it after taking the time to do it, you never know with teenagers.

The next thing I finished was this dog sweater. My daughters dog, Harley, is a chiuaua mix so she is always cold and shaking. So I found a dog sweater pattern and finished it within two days. I used scrap yarn and ran out of the brown so I used black for the collar. If I would have known I did not have enough I would have also done the tail end ribbing and the middle ribbing in black as well, so it coordinated better, but this is just for around the house so it serves the purpose. Also this dog has the funniest neck, nothig sits right on her neck, so if I make her another one I will make the next more like a turtle neck so it will appear to be up on her neck.

One Sock Done

Posted by Johnny

Well my sock is done. I finished it Sunday and didn't get it posted. However, the bad news is that it doesn't fit! I am sure it would have fit if I would have bought the yarn I intended on getting (Patons Strech Yarn) in the first place, because it has more give to it. But I am so cheap that I chose this Sock yarn instead, because I figured if I did not finish then I would not be out the money plus I used a 40% off coupon at Joann's. I was very disappointed at first then I decided that it was just a learning experience. I have started the next one and I am making it bigger. I also had to buy more yarn, which means I didn't really save any money! GRRR!
Oh well, I am really enjoying making these stupid socks and I hope my family will enjoy them as much, because they will all probably get a pair for Christmas...LOL! Now that I have taken the mystery out of crocheting I am finding I can crochet a lot of things. I have made a few flowers, a granny square, and a dishcloth. After I finish these socks though I need to re-focus on Aprons and Denim. I am so A.D.D that I tend to drift from project to project.
I also have finished sewing Spencer's Boy Scout badges on his sash. He seemed pretty happy that I finally got them on. I wanted to get caught up before he gets his Eagle, which should be some time this summer. Sewing badges on is the last thing I want to be doing before his Eagle party!

Watcha Working On Wednesday 3-11

Posted by Johnny

This is what I have done so far with my denim aprons that I am making. This is the first one so it is taking a bit longer. I am sure after I get the process done and acquire more fabric scraps they will go together much faster. Plus I wanted to embroider the pocket of this one. I am really liking the way this is turning out. It will be hard to part with it.

Hopefully I will be finished with it by this weekend. When it's finished I will post pictures. My plan is to make several different aprons and open an etsy store. But I would like to have several ahead so I will continue to have sock on hand.

What I'm Working On Wednesday 3/4

Posted by Johnny

These are BOM's from Willowberry Designs. I have finished Jan & Feb, and now need to get going on March. I have not put any fabric along the outside , because I didn't have it until last night. I picked some up at Wal-Mart in Ft.Wayne for $2/yd.

The next thing I am working on is my new "Denim" project. Here is a glimpse of what I am doing. I went to Goodwill and bought some old overalls and started taking the seams out. Unfortunately as you can see in the second picture the seam ripper and I got into a fight and it won!
I felt I needed to go to Urgent Care, however I was in pain and have never cut myself that bad. Then my husband looked at it and said it really wasn't that serious. He also reminded me that I could not go to Urgent Care at 9pm, I would have to go to our local hospital (which I hate). So I took a pain pill from my stash and whined for about an hour and now I am okay.
This will slow down the progress of this project, but I am determined to get something complete to put up on the page by this weekend. I also have company coming Saturday so who knows if this will truly happen.

I forgot to link you to this site when I first posted; (oops!) Head over to Homemaking Dreams to her "Whatcha Working on Wednesday" and get some inspiration for your projects.

Finally a Finished Project!!

Posted by Johnny

I finally finished this project that I have had for over 10 years incomplete! I started it and then lost the pattern, so I couldn't finish it. So here it is...

Then also I finished this one that I started last year and put it up around July then just got it back out after Christmas. So technically I finished two projects. I still need to frame both of these, but I will need to wait for that because that will cost a little more money than I have right now.

Tomorrow I will post the new start of a great new project I started and maybe I can inspire some of you to join me?!

4-H Is Here Again

So it's that time of year again...and as usual I am always so excited to see the kids get started on their projects. Then about a week before projects are due I am wondering why I let them take on so much!

Well, this year I did get Morgan to take one less project so she will only be doing seven. That means less posters...which is great, but I did buy the posters at Walgreens already anticipating her taking three projects that required posters.

Spencer, WILL NOT be sewing this year. Even though he keeps trying to find patterns that would be, in his words, "so much easier than last year". Well after last year, yes anything would be easier. He will be taking microwave cooking and floriculture. I hope the floriculture is as easy as it sounds. I will be looking around Ft. Wayne to see if there is any place that offers flower arranging classes, I think that will help tremendously.

Here is one of the patterns Morgan picked out. She will also have to find a pattern for some Capri's. We found the fabric at Joann's for only $4/yd, and we only needed 2 yds. (heads up next week Joann's clearance fabric will be 1/2 off!!)

This is fabric we picked up for $4.50/yrd that she will use the same pattern to make another top. I took two pictures of the fabric. One is the right side and the other is the wrong side. Morgan wants to do the majority of the shirt with the wrong side out and then do the yoke of the shirt (not sure if you can see it in this picture) with the right side. I think to make this shirt a little more difficult we will be adding piping around the yoke. It will actually help it look more professional as well.

Finished Chemise and Split Drawers

Posted by Johnny

YEAH!!
Morgan and I finally finished the Chemise and Split Drawers tonight. We wanted to post pictures (and I will) however, we can't find a camera. So as soon as I find a camera or batteries that are charged for the other camera I will post pictures!

So now we will start on the petticoat. I am not truly excited about this, because we have to put all of those lovely cords into it. Yuck!!
